FREE PEGASUS, A skate film by Brian Lotti
What makes for a great day of skateboarding with friends in a beautiful city? Free Pegasus is a skate film that combines good skateboarding with a little storytelling. This film expresses the charms of an essential skateboard experience: connecting with friends and cruising through a magic urban landscape.
Free Pegasus lends viewers a taste of a warm and juicy skateboard metropolis: Barcelona, Spain. American professional skateboarders Clint Peterson and Cooper Wilt join European locals Luypa Sin, Marcus Mueller, Daniel Lebron and others to cruise and session many of Barcelona’s popular plazas and neighborhoods. These guys skate from spot to spot in this city and the local architecture and classical monuments make for interesting stops along the way. But perhaps more than a picture of a particular place, Free Pegasus, is really a portrait of the colorful skateboard community that thrives in Barcelona. This story charts how various skateboarders make their way through the day to cross paths, connect, skate and then meet up at the big plaza for sunset. Skaters from all over Europe meet to ride and share the day. There are a few different languages spoken, and Free Pegasus makes clear that skateboarding is an activity which transcends borders and cultural differences. In this story professional and nonprofessional skateboarders alike are protagonists. All these skateboarders ride the same spots and speak a common visual language. Then, the skateboarding spirit continues as everyone gathers to share food and music into the evening.
The gypsy-waltz marching tones of Beirut, the robust poetry of Akron Family, and the local flavor of live recorded Flamenco guitar music all contribute towards creating an upbeat and European-flavored musical score. This film has been shot with coloradjusted video cameras to create the effect of supersaturated 16mm film. Total running time is 36 minutes.
